Enfermidade: concepto
Disease: concept
Disease is a physical or mental disorder that causes disturbances in normal body function, either at a physical or psychological level. Pathology are the changes that occur in the body from disease.
- A contaxiosidade. Capacidade de propagación do microorganismo.
- A infectividade. Capacidade do axente infeccioso de instalarse e multiplicarse.
- A patoxenicidade. Capacidade do patóxeno de producir enfermidade.
- A virulencia.
Classification of the illnesses:
º º Non infectious illnesses. They are those which are caused by pathogens (all that biological entity capable of causing illnesses or damages to the biology of a guest) .
-Hereditary or genetic illnesses. There are inherited from our ancestors.. Many are chronicle. (diabetes, hemophilia). The genetic predisposition is considered a factor of risk for other illnesses, as the cancer.
- Mental illnesses. They provoke abnormal or unjustified alterations of the personality (schizophrenia, cognitive deficits...). There are different drugs that can be used in their treatment, as well as therapies and psychological/psychiatric help.
- Illnesses specific to organs and systems. They affect to the different organs or systems of the body, as, for example, the illnesses of the breathing system (chronic bronchitis), of the circulatory system (heart insufficiency); those of the central nervous system (Alzheimer, epilepsy), those of the peripheral nervous system (neuropaties), of the endocrine system (hyper and hypothyroidism, diabetes); and those of the organs of the senses.
- Auto-immune illnesses. Those thatare due to a fault in the immunological system that derives in theproduction of molecules (antibodies) that go against the organism itself, which produces injuries in numerous organs and systems (multiple sclerosis). There are some drugs that help control these illnesses.
-Illnesses caused by accidents. They include the pathologies produced in traffic , domestic, work, sport or of leisure accidents.
º º Infectious illnesses. They are the ones caused by pathogenic microorganisms: bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoans. These are one of the most frequent causes of illness in the human beings.
-Valencia: number of people with a specific illness in a specific moment.
- Incidence: new cases of illness that appear in a population.
The infection is transmitted from a source of infection to a susceptible guest, the healthy individual, being able to fall ill after the contact with the infectious agent.
Pathogen-guest characteristics:
- Capacity of propagation of the microorganism.
- Capacity of the infectious agent of being installed and multiplying.
- Capacity of the pathogen of causing illness.
- Degree of pathogens.
Phases of the infectious illnesses:
- Period of incubation, time that goes by from the entry of the microorganism (reservoirs of the infection: places where the pathogens are reproduced) to the appearance of the first symptoms. It is variable and characteristic of every illness.
- Prodromic period (or of manifest illness), characterized by the appearance of unspecific general signs that are presented in a great number of processes. The pathogen did not act well in the organ on which it is going to cause the illness, although there is affectation of the general state.
- Clinic period, in which the symptoms and signs that define the illness , besides the analytic data, will allow the doctor to do the precise diagnosis of the illness . After a phase of effervescence, that of convalence, characterized by the exhaustion caused by the reaction of the organism in the face of the stress of the infection, is passed.
